POSTER DESIGN FOR CASLON AWARENESS
"When in doubt, use Caslon!" became a well-known adage for the classic serif font Caslon, which first made its debut in England (1722) by William Caslon. But with the appearance of newer typefaces, its popularity is quickly diminishing.
To remedy this, I brought in contemporary flair by extrapolating its smooth letter forms and arranged it in a playful manner to refresh its image for current times. In the fashion of cheekiness, I created a persona to represent Caslon by adorning the tropes of old English detectives with their deerstalker hats, monocles, strong noses, and groomed facial hair. Pairing the strong shapes with a poppy colour scheme helped tie in a quirky, new look for this timeless typeface.
